Galatians 2:20 (CEB)
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in my body, I live by faith, indeed, by the faithfulness of God’s Son, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Put another way:
My former self is no longer in control, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live is a life lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me enough to die for me.
I don’t believe that we are called to die to ourselves because God made some kind of mistake in making us. I also don’t believe that it means that I lose everything that makes me, me. My personality; my identity; these things that God created me to have, are not lost, but rather restored. I am not losing my existence, but rather having it be reformed in the image of God. It is restored to the way it was supposed to be.
- Pastor Chris
- Are there areas of your life that you are afraid to let go of?
- Are there areas that you don’t want to give control of to Him?
- Take a moment to examine your heart and inner-most feelings; what is God asking you to give to Him?
Dying to ourselves is not just a one time occurrence that happens when we get saved and then we never think about it again. We must continue dying to self as part of a life long process. Every day we must choose to give control to Him. Ask God to come in and take control. When you say, "Lord, I give you this day,” mean it.
