1 Peter 2:9 (CEB)
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are God’s own possession. You have become this people so that you may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called you out of darkness into his amazing light.”
You might say, “I just can’t evangelize! It’s just not me, I can’t walk up to a stranger and tell them about Jesus!” But then you feel guilty because are we not suppose to be a “kingdom of Priests and a Holy nation?” Isn’t that our calling?
Yes, but evangelism is different than we think. Here are some myths about evangelism.
Myth 1: I don’t know enough of the Bible. You don’t have to have the Bible memorized to tell others about Jesus. All you need is your experience. No one can take away your story so tell it openly and with confidence, because it’s YOUR story!
Myth 2: I can’t speak to strangers. You don’t have too! The best place to tell your story about Christ Jesus is with those you have a relationship with.
Myth 3: I’m afraid our relationship will suffer. When you tell your story and share with people you have invested in, even if they don’t agree or take it to heart, you will be a light in their life. If you are loving and gracious they will accept you, even if they don’t accept the gospel. Trust that God will show you when the time is right to share.
Something to remember when thinking about evangelism, it isn’t your job to save someone! You are the tool that the Holy Spirit will use in their life.
